Yes, the title of this blog post suggests that what I’m about to share are trends. However in my mind, a trend is something that’s fleeting and comes and goes based on happenings in culture and fashion. These not new or overly trendy (in fact they are quite timeless), although because we’re seeing them everywhere, I suppose we can consider them 2022 trends, right? Regardless, they are just too beautiful not to share.
We haven’t spilled the beans on some big home changes coming next Spring, but I can tell you that I’ve definitely incorporated a few of these into upcoming plans.
- Checkerboard Tile Floors

I don’t need to say much about this one, except that it’s timeless and elegant and unique all in one. It works in a kitchen, mudroom, entryway, primary bath – or even gym (Chris Loves Julia recently did this in their home gym and my heart skipped a beat).
- Warm Tones & Darker Wood

Believe me, I never thought I’d be listing ‘darker wood tones’ in a roundup of things that I loved. Typically I gravitate towards light oak tones that make spaces feel lighter and brighter. However lately I can’t get enough of all the earthy tones like beige, brown, creams and rust – mixed with darker wood floors, kitchen islands or pantry doors. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating for cherry wood that looks dated and dark (thank goodness we left that in the past), but instead rich chestnut hues that feel luxurious and warm.
- Vertical Shiplap

We’ve seen alot of horizontal shiplap in the past, especially in spaces with a modern farmhouse aesthetic, however can we take a moment for vertical shiplap. This treatment still feels farmhouse-inspired, but with a little more sophistication. Almost as if the modern farmhouse became an English cottage, ya know? I’m loving it when painted in warm creamy greige hues (hello BM Swiss Coffee or Revere Pewter), specifically in small spaces like powder rooms, mudrooms or entryways. I’ve even seen it as a kitchen backsplash, which is so timeless and beautiful.
- Milking Stools

This is where I might lose you and while I completely understand, milking stools are everywhere right now. They are short, wooden, three-legged stools that in decades past would have been used for milking cows, but today are just so perfect in spaces like bathrooms, as accent tables in living rooms, or as decor pieces anywhere in the home you need a bit of texture and warmth. Typically these can be found at antique stores (which I love because each has its own character and charm), but I’ve also spotted them on Etsy, LD Shoppe and VdeV.
- Woven Everything

While woven furniture pieces are not new (hello rattan everywhere), what I’m especially loving right now are all the woven decor pieces – like lamp shades, vases and pendant lights. Not only do they add a hit of warmth in terms of colour, but they also add so much rich texture. Sometimes spaces like kitchens and bathrooms need a bit of texture to break up the cooler tile, and how easy is it to pop in a lamp or a vase?
