Ah, the entryway. The first space you see when you walk in. The area that provides that first impression for guests. While it’s typically relatively small, it has a pretty big job. It needs to make us feel something upon walking in (whether that’s peaceful, excited, calm or that ‘ahhh home’ sigh of relief), it needs to dutifully hold our keys, boots and bags, and it needs to reflect our style and that of the rest of the house. If we are going for a laid-back warm, coastal vibe, it wouldn’t make sense for the entryway to feel modern and cold, ya know?
Although whatever your jam is, it doesn’t need to be complicated to achieve or expensive. I’m all about affordable and accessible design – which is why I’m sharing 3 entryway looks that you can totally achieve. Each one pulls from different styles, but I’ve listed my 5 must-haves that apply across the board:
- Start with your anchor piece: a console table or a bench.
- Dress up the wall with a mirror or a large art piece.
- Add texture in the form of greenery, a woven basket or fabric.
- Layer with lighting, whether that’s a lamp (or two) or wall sconces.
- Style with books, smaller art prints and other found pieces.
Let’s get into the looks:

Entryway 2: English Cottage
