Planning Our Nursery

I’ll be honest, one of the first things (ok maybe like fifth thing) that came to mind when I saw that positive pregnancy stick was THE NURSERY! As someone that will take any excuse to redesign a room, this seemed like a pretty legitimate one. If you aren’t following me on Instagram, you may not know that my husband Nick and I are expecting a baby girl in June 2022.

When thinking about the design of her soon-to-be bedroom, I wanted it to feel feminine and whimsical without leaning into the obvious overly pink or baby-themed palette. I gravitated towards sophisticated neutrals that felt playful, but peaceful enough for Nick and I to spend (alot) of time in.

This small room doesn’t get a ton of light, so I knew the walls had to stay light and airy. I chose Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee because its’ warm and inviting and has this delicious creaminess that paired perfectly with the wallpaper I was eyeing. I chose Skybound in Dusk from Opposite Wall and it was everything I had hoped for and more. We’ll save the nightmare story of hanging it on 100 year old crooked walls for another day. I fell in love with the whimsical cloud pattern and muted colours that felt feminine and nursery-appropriate.

When it came to the crib, rocker and dresser – three items I knew baby girl would be spending lots of time on or in – I prioritized products that were GREENGUARD Gold Certified (and looked cute too, of course). This certification is not necessary, but for Nick and I it was an important criteria. It’s a program that tests for over 10,000 chemicals and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), ensuring that sensitive and growing little bodies are safe. As a Holistic Nutritionist in my former life, I try to minimize exposure to toxins that are avoidable – like scented products, cleaning supplies, makeup, cooking pots & pans and more.

After much research and review-reading, we decided on a Babyletto crib and rocker, and a Pottery Barn Kids dresser. Again, we were super intentional about which items we spent a little extra on. The accessories, shelving and decor are a mix of Etsy, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Article and Amazon, while the Loloi rug was a piece that we had previously and love love love. Our light fixture had lived in the previous guest room and it added a bit of warmth and texture.

Which brings me to the moodboard! I’m still waiting on a few details before I share the final reveal, but if you head on over to IG, I’ve shared a few sneaky peaks.
